If you’re a sunrise lover, then I don’t have very good news for you. In Kaş the Sun rises from behind the steep, rocky hills. So when you see it shining, probably you will be drinking your last teas of your breakfast (yes, we drink many glasses of tea in breakfast in Turkey 😉 ). But don’t be sad, because our lovely Kaş will compensate that for you with its gorgeous sunsets. All tones of pink, purple orange, blue and yellow may seem unrealistic if you see them on a canvas painting, but it’s so real and at the same time magical in the Kaş sky. Clouds can make the sunsets even better as long as they don’t cover the sun.
Now I will be telling you the strategic locations where you should be settled to watch this miraculous scenery which you’ll be waiting excitedly each and every day. Bear in mind that the best sunsets are the ones in autumn and winter time. When the summer ends the sun starts to descent from a point closer to Kastellorizo island with a reddish glow. So maybe this would give you a reason to come and see Kaş at that time of the year, too.
In my opinion, the best places to watch the sunset in Kaş are:
1) In the bar area of Derya Beach, while sipping your Jack & pomegranate kokteyl made with the freshest pomegranates of Kaş
2) In Déjà Vu – if you can find a seat at that time of the day you can watch the show accompanied by rock music and cold beer.
3) You can take a flask of cold white wine, some dried fruits and Kaş almonds with you and watch the sun descending over the olive trees into the sea from the top of the Antiphellos Ancient Theatre.
4) If you go for a walk in the Peninsula in the evening, you can catch the sunset time at the right side of the Peninsula looking at Gökseki. That’s an amazing point to see it go down and physical exercise would be the bonus for you. 😉
5) You will see some benches and viewing platforms on the main road to Antalya. Those are wonderful spots to see Kaş and the sunset scenery with a 180 degree angle.
6) You can watch the sunset in Büyükçakıl with the lovely rattling sounds of pebbles in the background and continue to a rakı-mezze night in one of the restaurants with wooden tables on the beach afterwards.
As you see we have many delighted points to watch the sunset in Kaş. If you insist on watching the sunrise we can send you to Kastellorizo for a day maybe? But not longer, because we haven’t accomplished our things to do list which is still full of many other alternatives.
