It may seem like a small town center with little shopping opportunities at first sight, but when you get to know Kaş you’ll see it’s full of alternatives. You may lose yourself while wandering between a stand selling hand made goods to a ceramics store or from a lovely boutique in Uzun Çarşı to an accessories shop in a little cobblestone street.
Most popular place for shopping is the Uzun Çarşı (Long Market), also known as the slippery street amongst the travelers. 😉 You can find very high quality clothes, beach towels, silver jewelry, some antiques, decorative objects and etc on this street with pubs in one end and the King’s Tomb on the other. You may have seen this street’s on Instagram many times for sure. It’s renowned for its slippery but very beautiful kind of pavement stones and two stories houses with oriel windows covered by bougainvillea flowers lined on both sides. If you are a shutterbug, you may come and take photos early in the morning when everyone’s sleeping. Otherwise it will always be very crowded in the summer season. Most vibrant and lively hours of the street will be the time before and after dinner.
You can wander in the streets that intersect Uzun Çarşı and find very nice shopping options there, too. There are lots of stands selling accessories and decorative objects in the patio in front of Gagarin rock bar and along the street that opens up to Mavi Bar. You can buy souvenirs from the shops around the Bar Street. In less than an hour you would have explored a great portion of the market place for sure.
Besides the shopping area in the town center, there are other alternatives in which you may be interested. You should take a glance at the ceramic objects in Galleria Anatolia which is almost one of the classical spots in Kaş. Established in 1987, this hip gallery is located on the beginning of the road to Küçükçakıl. You may find exclusive glass artwork of foreign artists in Kosta Boda which is located right beside Hideaway Bar. You should also see LikyaArt located on the road to Kaş Hotel. This studio of creation is well known for their wood engravings and printings on textile and paper.
If you want to gain the energy you spent while shopping, ice cream may be a good option. Kaş is renowned with its famous burnt ice cream with a slightly caramelized and fumed taste. You will see some queues in front of stalls selling “tava dondurması (pan ice cream)” which is also one of the favorite types of ice cream. However, if you are a fan of classical ice cream like me, then you will enjoy the ice cream of Feride which is made of natural ingredients and goat milk. I have an offer for the ones who don’t want ice cream, but wouldn’t say no to an ice coffee or a frappe, too. Biiisstt coffee and snack shop would be a perfect spot for them.
So after this short break, I will take you to groceries and market shopping.
