I used to come to Kaş for summer vacations for so many years. Since we have an apartment there for the last four years I almost spent a third of the years in Kaş now. When I planned to create a web page like this, I thought about all those years and past memories and experiences and decided that I should start to tell how Kaş makes me feel like.
What I like most about Kaş is of course its fabulous nature and the turquoise sea. I will be telling them in detail in the latter posts. I want to mention the feeling, the soul of this little town first. Kaş is a place where I can be myself with a totally free and relaxed soul. I can appreciate the beautiful opportunities the town offers fully without any make-up or mask – in every sense ;). I can find myself in a conversation about the book I’m reading with the person on the neighboring sunbed, or discuss the season’s favorite plays in İstanbul with the wine bar keeper, or leave the bar which I went for a sundowner and with only a beach cover up at 11 PM and no one turns around to look why is she here in the beach mode. Rakı and meze nights in its tavern like restaurants are a gift for both your stomach and your soul. I can lie under the sun in its quiet beaches –can you believe there are no jet-skis in town? It’s unbelievable for a Turkish beach town!- and swim in its spectacular sea with the caretta carettas. This is my heaven on earth where everything is so beautiful and everyone is so respectful to each other.
And also this is a place where you can only put a few shorts and tees, a beach dress, and a flip flop to your vacation luggage. No overblown lips and cheeks and egos here! 😉 You cannot here high heel ticks anywhere. You can make a difference with enriching life experiences here, not with your luxury brand handbags. It will not meet your expectations if you’re eager for crazy beach parties with loud music, but it’ll sooth your soul with the chill-out, nostalgic Turkish pop, rock and blues music in its miraculous sunset times. It’s so small and boutique that there are no shopping malls and chain coffee shop branches in it. Nowadays it’s hard to find a place like this in anywhere in Turkey. So it’s a kind of almost extinct and otherworldly place enabling you to experience what is actually important, meaningful, healing and valuable for the human nature. I even love it with great care because of that.
When you change the letters of Kaş, it becomes Aşk, which is the Turkish word for Love. So we use the reduplication Kaş-Aşk so much. And we will be using Kaş Crush very much so, too! 😉 The ones who are really in love with Kaş would understand me when I say “I even love it with great care.” Because Kaş is a great lover. She opens herself to you with all her soul, beauty and naturalness and heals you, transforms you and makes you more beautiful and happy. So I want her to find great lovers who deserve her. And hope she doesn’t meet anyone who does not appreciate, care and show respect to her. Because there is no other Kaş!
