Diving may seem like a summer activity, but when you’re in a place where the sun shines 300 days a year and the water temperature is between 19 to 29 degrees Celsius you can dive almost any time of the year. Since the area between Kaş-Kekova is officially a marine protected area the underwater fauna and flora is very rich in terms of variedness. Kaş is a heaven in Turkey for diving enthusiasts. If you be a nice diver, one day you can even see a Mediterranean seal! 😉
Even if you are not a nice diver, there are many species to be seen for sure. Caretta carettas are in the top of the list. You will be witnessing an amazing biological variety and see lots of different species of fish, octopus, seahorse, prawn colonies, groupers, morays, leer fish, nudibranch and much more. Besides these coral reefs and ancient ruins and a shipwreck will be waiting for the divers. You can bring a companion who does not want to dive with you to the diving boats, too. There’s an option to just watch people diving, sunbathing and swimming in those wonderful blue spots for the ones who doesn’t want to dive.
Canyon is the most attractive destination for the divers. You will see the Dimitri Shipwreck which was a cotton trade ship and sunken in 1968. It’s a great experience to dive into the depths of blue between two natural walls of 22 meters forming a V shape. There are other island destinations which are mainly located between Kaş and Kastellorizo, some other remote islands, caves and a few spots in the Peninsula for diving. You can determine the appropriate diving program for you by getting information from the diving agencies in the center and choose a daily training program or one of the advance programs according to your needs.
