If you are looking for a sea with a color ranging from navy blue to turquoise, not too hot or cold, which you can either jump in from the rocks or enjoy the pebble beaches, then you are in the right place. As you can understand there are many alternatives in Kaş in terms of your sea pleasure. Let’s start with the most renowned ones.
The most central and popular one is the Small Pebble Beach (Küçükçakıl Plajı). It’s one of the coldest beaches of Kaş, and maybe the whole Mediterranean coast of Turkey, because there are many parts where the spring water flows into the sea. Its cold water is so refreshing when combined with the summer heat though, so don’t be afraid! 😉 You can either use the small, free public beach here or benefit from the sunbeds, umbrellas and cafes of the private beaches. The most popular private ones are the Derya Beach and Çınarlar Beach.
If you want colder water to swim in I can recommend Big Pebble Beach (Büyükçakıl Plajı) for you. You can either walk there in around twenty minutes if the weather is not too hot, or take a dolmuş (minibus) from the center. There are a few cafes here and you can also find sunbeds and shades, but it has a bit shabby style in general. It may be for your own good to bring your beach shoes, too, because as its name suggests you will be walking on the big pebble stones before you surrender yourself to the loveliest blue. It will become deep immediately, so you don’t need to worry too much.
Kaputaş Beach is the one you probably already have seen in almost every Kaş page or brochure. It’s one of the most beautiful beaches in the world but you can enjoy it with some effort. First of all, it takes like 15-20 minutes to drive on the never ending bending roads of Kaş. Then you should take dozens of stairs to go down and climb back up. It will probably be wavy and very crowded in the afternoon, so you should be sacrificing from your morning sleep to enjoy it fully. Despite all these, you will see that this wild beauty is definitely worth it.
Another lovely bay where you can only reach by boat in 20 minutes is Limanağzı. With its comparably warm water, shallowness, minty green to turquoise color, it has a whole lot of fans. There are three private beaches on the bay which you can spend your whole day.
It’s time to talk about the beaches of Çukurbağ Peninsula. Families with children can prefer the little, shallow and warm bay of İnceboğaz located right across the Marina. If you want a larger bay to swim in there is the Public Beach in the immediate vicinity. It’s suitable both for the families with children and others because of its very large area full of playgrounds, sunbeds on the pebbles and a grass area where you can roll out a blanket and enjoy your picnic basket. There is a little café where you can buy snacks and beverages but there is no booze unless you bring with you in a cooler bag. So packing is important for you to fully enjoy the public beach. 😉
The most famous bay of the Peninsula is known as the Hidayet Bay among Kaş lovers. Nowadays there is a private beach there invading the bay each and every year with its hotel and “more private” beach areas and etc. You may have read in many reviews that it looks like the beautiful “blue lagoon” film setting, and it’s somehow true in the off-season. However, it’s so crowded and noisy with the loud popular music during the hot season that I usually prefer staying away from it or go swimming early in the morning. It’s one of the attraction points for diving and snorkeling. So do not forget to take your snorkel with you and watch the graceful water ballet of different species of fish and caretta carettas, of course. And make sure you bring a companion to take you out of this magical sea in case you forget to. 😉
We have two fabulous alternatives for camping fans, too. One of them is Kaş Camping, located very close to the ancient theatre, and the other one is Olympos Mocamp which is almost five minutes driving distance to the Marina. You can either stay in the tents or prefer bungalows for accommodation in these locations. And there is the Akçagerme beach right after Olympos Camping and that is the most favorite one of the families with children.
Besides these mostly renowned beaches, there are many hotel beaches open to the people other than the hotel customers and hidden gems which the Kaş lovers keep to themselves. 😉 After you finish Kaş 101 and start to feel that Kaş Crush in you, you will be ready to explore those heavenly secret spots in which you’ll feel special.
